congrats on your new tat(s)!

For tattoo aftercare I use a product called Dermshield which is a waterproof, breathable, adhesive bandage specifically made for tattoo healing. I recommend leaving the bandage on for 3-4 days. Doing this for the entire timeframe allows the tattoo to heal with an extra layer of protection during it’s most vulnerable stage and alleviates most of the scabbing and peeling during the healing process.

Please note that people with more sensitive skin may experience irritation from prolonged exposure to adhesives.

If this occurs at any point remove it as soon as possible and continue to the next step of the aftercare process.

After removing the bandage begin applying an unscented moisturizer,

2-3 times per day for 3-4 weeks.

Precautions to follow throughout the rest of the healing process:

  • Avoid direct sunlight and use a light layer of sunscreen when necessary

  • Avoid wearing tight-fitting, constrictive clothing against the area of your new tattoo

  • Avoid heavy sweating in or around the area of your tattoo. If heavy pooling occurs under your dermshield remove it at your earliest convenience and begin moisturizing

  • Do NOT soak in any body of water

  • Do NOT pick, itch or scratch the tattoo

Other tips & suggestions:

  • If you have already have a moisturizer of choice I’d continue to use whatever works best for you. Otherwise Jergens, Curél, and Palmers are all easy to obtain and recommendable lotion brands. Just be sure to seek out an unscented version of their products.

  • Removing the Dermshield in the shower is highly recommended. With warm water rinsing over it, lightly begin roll & peel one edge to the other.

  • Use an unscented soap (e.g. Dr. Broners or Dial Gold) if you need to wash the area around your tattoo and pat it dry as soon as possible afterward.

  • Instead of itching a tattoo you can lightly pat it or apply a little more moisturizer to try to alleviate the sensation.

Failure to follow these precautions could lead to improper healing, infection and scarring. Remember: a tattoo is technically an open wound until it fully heals. Please reach out if you have any questions throughout the process 🤍
